CELEBRATION DAY Today Im reflecting on one of the coolest things I ever accomplished in my career - the Bonham Memorial Drum kit. If I tried to do this today, it would not happen, but back around the 25th anniversary of Bonhams passing I approached Jim Catalano and Todd Trent with the idea of making 25 stainless kits in the exact configuration that Bonham used for his final touring set. It would not have happened without them. 400 stainless steel drum shells, all crafted by hand. 53,00 holes, 106,000 countersink operations per hole -again, no automation, each hole drilled and csunk by hand. Each shell polished by hand. Throughout all of it, all I was thinking of was John. If you are one of the fortunate Bonham fans to have purchased one of these kits - congrats. Hang onto it. Heres to you John. You did more for drumming than any other drummer in history.
