One of the principals of Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity is that time moves much slower when in motion, also known as time dilation. I have trouble with math problems when a decimal point is added so don’t ask me to explain what I just made reference to. Einstein’s theory has been made popular by numerous movies and TV shows which shows individuals returning from space travel and finding themselves not to have aged but their children have grown and now have children of their own. The recent movie Interstellar starring Matthew McConaughey, a rotten movie, explores this principal. It shows McConaughey leaving his young daughter as he jets off into space to save the world. He returns years later to find he hasn’t aged but his daughter is old and on her death bed surrounded by her own grown children. If Einstein’s theory is correct about time moving slower when in motion then is it possible it moves faster when it’s stationary? This can explain why I woke up this morning, on the last day of 2014, and said to myself “where in the f*** did the last 50 years go.” It seem like last month (1965) I was in Ft. Dix, my first day in the Army and first day on my own, being yelled at and saying to myself what in the hell did I do. Several weeks ago being married with two children. A few days later divorced, married again and holding a newborn son. The older I got the hands of that clock became faster. It’s hard to believe that my 2nd wife of 25 years, who passed away from cancer, has been gone for 10 years and my youngest son, has two children of his own. And it seems just like last night I was saying the same things, on December 31, 2013, about the departure of 2013. So with the arrival of 2015 just 15 hours away, which when converted to the concept of time moving faster when motionless is 12 seconds, I realize the mortality of my being. To those who I have not fully understood your situation and reacted negatively and caused anguish in your life, I’m sorry. For those of you who brought pain to my life, I forgive you. This year I’ll try to be a better man and open my heart to not only those special people in my life but also to those who have created and will probably continue to attempt to cause conflict. From my moment of birth my time on this planet has been counting down and I’m going to do everything possible to make 2015 a better year than 2014. Plus I’m going to start moving a little faster, hoping to slow those damn hour hands from traveling at supersonic speed. Happy New Year to everyone, God bless you all, I wish you all the best.
