CERN celebrates its 60th anniversary this year and two Italian physicists have been there for 58 of those years. Maria and Giuseppe Fidecaro moved to Geneva in 1956 when there were only a few hundred other people working at CERN. Giuseppe worked on the synchrocyclotron that was the first accelerator built at CERN and Maria, one of the few women employed by the organization, worked on methods to produce polarized proton beams.
