CGM court grants bail to Binay Tamang Jalpaiguri, 26 Aug 2013: Gorkha Janamukti Morcha assistant secretary Binay Tamang, who was arrested in a case filed at the Nagrakatha police station in 2011, was today presented before the Jalpaiguri district court where he was taken from Siliguri and granted bail. Tamang is also an accused in the Sibchu incident of 2009. Speaking to the press, he said the state government cannot suppress the demand for a separate state by arresting GJM leaders. He said 10 new leaders would take over and replace each leader arrested as the statehood demand is the people’s aspiration. The GJM leader also said those leaders presently behind bars are all participating in hunger strikes. Public prosecutor Shanta Chatterjee said civil judge Chowdhury Hefazat Karim has granted Tamang bail on a case filed at the Malbazar police station in 2009. However, Chatterjee said the GJM leader could be arrested again on charges of attempt to murder, violating law and damaging public properties at Sibchu.EOI
