CHAPTER 2 *** “You have - TopicsExpress

CHAPTER 2 *** “You have been summoned.” I stared at the young messenger sent by the old wretch. The wretch was seventy-two now, and the worst his family had ever done. I had often considered ripping his insides out but then I did need him. I wouldn’t succeed without his blood. And all the trouble I had gone through since all these years wouldn’t go to waste just because a worthless dog annoys me; I had better plans. “I heard that boy. You may leave.” I knew better than to be late today of all days. It was time. Glancing once at my reflection in the mirror, I left for the court. As I walked down the gloomy corridors the priest’s words came back to me. give what makes you who you are and dost shall have him back. It took me a long time to figure out what he had meant back then. But today I shall have him back. By the time I my stomach reached the court, the butterflies in made me dizzy with the consequences that follow a battle. But this battle I was willing to take part in. trembling with excitement I entered the main hall. “Nola. I want you to meet our guest, Roger.” I had the sudden urge to rip the old man’s lungs out. Pulling on my best face I smiled at him and nodded. Poor bastard didn’t know what I had in store for him. I turned my attention to the man standing beside him. He was tall, with light grey eyes and a slight stubble. I recognized him at once. His eyes danced with amusement as he took in my appearance. “It’s nice to meet you Nola. It’s nice to know that the legend is true as it is. You are indeed the most beautiful woman ever.” He bowed once and then winked playfully at me when the wretch wasn’t paying attention. ‘Well it’s a pleasure to meet you too, Roger.” I snorted internally at his choice of name. What was he thinking? “Take care of our guest Nola. They are special people.” The wretch gave me a look signaling me to offer my whorish services to the man. I smiled internally at his ignorance. He had no inkling of how special these people really were. “I would like to escort you to your chamber Roger-if you don’t mind that.” I stared into his grey eyes for a long moment and they stared back with amusement into mine. “I would be honored ma’am.” His voice was laced with mischief that matched his eyes. I gave him a stern nod before turning around and making my way to the guest chamber right beside my own. I felt him following with a string of men carrying his luggage. My body ached as I tried to control my urge to bombard him with all the questions. I had to be patient. We entered the huge room adorned with priceless commodities of this land- the furniture was all ancient and the room with its dark leather furnishings had a dark and gloomy appeal to it, a beauty that could only be seen by a few. “You may leave.” I told the helpers coldly once they had kept the luggage in the corner by our right. Finally I turned my attention to the man next to me. His eyes still had the glint of humour inspite of their innocence. His face was as handsome as ever with its well carved lines. His body was well built and tall-way too tall. He hadn’t changed that much. “Nola-huh? That’s all you came up with?” his voice still had that edge, that element that could excite you anytime, anywhere. It only added a whole lot of sensuality to his already exceptional looks. I snorted at his smirking face. “Talk about yourself Roger.” He wrinkled his eyebrows in disgust. We stood there for a while taking it all in. Out of nowhere he pulled me into a hug. I stood there baffled but somehow, it wasn’t all that unpleasant. It was kind of warm and nice. “I’ve missed you so much Saijah.” he mumbled as he held me in his arms. I smiled inspite of the pain in my chest; he had scraped a wound. “It’s nice to know that you did Zollver.” ***
