CHARTING A COMMON FUTURE TOGTHER FOR EAST SEPIK PEOPLE IN 2015 The political leadership and public administration officials or managers of the public affairs of one of the least developed provinces in PNG. For the East Sepik Province it has been decided that the 2015 will be the year that will have to do the turnaround in thinking about the future development agenda for the province and the region. That decision, though late in coming after all these year is finally here. For the information of the public his project has the full support of the Governor of the province, Grand Chief, Sir Michael Thomas Somare. Like the saying goes, it is better late than never. Well, the East Sepik Leadership, under the direction of the Governor, and he is supported by the Acting Provincial Administrator, Otto Ganaii, and Provincial Executive Council Chief Operating Officer, Michael Sino they will host the first ever East Sepik Development Forum in February, from the dates 22nd to the 27th, 2015 in Wewak. A small team of professional forum planners are being assembled and shorty public advertisements will be placed in the appropriate public media outlets on the theme, paper presenters and the format of conducting the weeklong gathering. Invitational letters from both the governor and the provincial administration will be dispatched to those who have been identified. The list of known professional persons and groups from many different walks of life and vocations are being compiled. This will be the largest public gathering ever. Some thinking have begun, and a lot more needs to be done to get the Forum going on the dates mentioned above. In PNG, most professionals that have had a hand in development planning, especially in the light of the country’s long to medium term plans like the PNG Vision 2050 will be invited; bulk of these men and women will be from the province’s own elite corps; they are currently scattered throughout PNG and of course outside serving PNG’s interests. A broad terms of reference, which would include benchmarks and deliverables for the forum will have to be written up with input from a number of key development sectors like, primary, secondary and technical and university type education, health, opportunities for commerce and business, natural resource base and infrastructure among others. There are many priority areas for consideration in the development debate; but what would be of special interests will be the much talked about leadership and governance issues, the April Salumei REED Project, the Wewak Seawall Project and of course the Institute of Rural Technology (the future Northern Regional University of Rural Technologies) at Maprik to be inaugurated in the first quarter of 2015.This particular subject is a common knowledge since the announcement was made in December 2014 by Minister for Higher Education, Malakai Tabar.
