CHECK THIS OUT AND SHARE! On November 13th, 2014, Winnipeggers came out in droves to support Lana Sinclair who was brutally attacked by a police officer for no reason in front of her 8 year old son. With her face still bruised, she marched with many Winnipeggers in the streets against police brutality. Lanas older son is a police officer himself and feels theres been an injustice as well. The situation was not properly assessed. Lana Sinclair says it was Halloween and her partner and 8 year old son were getting ready to leave to go trick or treating. When Lana and her partner yelled to one another from inside the house to outside, a neighbor called in a domestic dispute according to Lana. The police came to her house, made her son take off his Halloween costume, split Lana and her partner up and one officer begun shouting racial slurs at her and poking her in the chest. She defended herself and told him not to do that which was followed by him hitting her in the knee and punching her in the face. Her 8 year old son witnessed this and was traumatized. Protesters marched down Main street without a permit and then took over Portage and Main for nearly a half hour smudging and forcing the citys awareness of this incredibly horrible epidemic of police brutality. It was powerful to say the least. It is understandable for those in traffic to be angry about the holdup but its one day out of the year to speak out about a serious problem in the city. It was 2 days before the Santa Claus Parade which while enjoyable is commercialized. Whats wrong with standing up for a woman who was beaten? Its blowback from police violence against innocent people which is nothing new in Winnipeg. Things got really intense but it was for a good cause. No one acted out violently. After taking over Portage and Main, we walked down Portage avenue and took some side streets eventually ending up at the Public Safety Building on Princess street which houses the Winnipeg Police Service. The police had closed the building in anticipation of us. We ended up getting in some confrontational arguments with police, some of whom were quite understanding but still defending the system theyre under. The march was one of the most incredible marches to hit Winnipeg in a long time and really shook the city, but of course the mainstream media did a crumby job of covering it, only making brief mentions of it on the news despite us taking over the busiest intersection in the city during rush hour. We wish Lana Sinclair justice, and we hope the best for her and her family. The police brutality in the city of Winnipeg is going rampant. With women being molested by police, beaten, unjustly detained, etc. Its important for us to hold our public servants accountable. https://youtube/watch?v=lVeRD0DY818 ~ Josh #policebrutality #LanaSinclair #Winnipeg #WinnipegPolice #WPG #policestate #march #protest #MMIW
