CHEETAHS MATCH REPORT : An unavailability crisis struck prior to Sundays away match vs Teddington with 6 of the squad of 8 declaring themselves unable to play. Hoss and Barrie were forced to call up 4 strangers and this was clearly a contributory factor in being battered in the first set 25-13. Introductions continued during the 2 minute break between sets and this clearly had an impact as a complete turnaround occurred with CHEETAHS taking the second set 25-11 mainly due to a 10 point service run by Barrie. CHEETAHS now adjusted their rotation based on their service strengths. Barrie was to be in prime service position whilst Hoss was to be kept away from service at all costs ! CHEETAHS were now in control. Barrie and Barry were sharing the setting with Barrie setting the standard enabling spikes to be put away from both sides. Barry was awarded an A for his setting but sadly this only stood for adequate (but dont tell him). The second set was taken 25-16 despite Hoss hitting all his serves into the net. The momentum was with CHEETAHS and Hoss - clearly feeling guilty for missing all those serves - was clinical in his hitting ably supported by Ian, Mike and Paul to clinch the match in the fourth set 25-15. Special mention to Paul who, in four sets, did not hit a single spike out of court or into the net. No mean feat when you have barry setting all over the place ! So CHEETAHS retain their 100% record but it is totally owed to PUMAS who not only had four players in the CHEETAHS six but also laid down in the opening match of the season to let CHEETAHS win ! Team on the day : Hoss (capt), Barrie (elder statesman), Barry (token fat guy), Ian (brains and stats). Paul (oldest swinger in town), Mike (no spelthorne team complete without a Polish player).
