CHEYENNE - The National Register Review Board and the State Historic Preservation Office presented Mary Randolph with the Lifetime Achievement Award in Historic Preservation on Tuesday. Randolph is director of the Wyoming Rural Development Council (WRDC) and Wyoming Main Street, a Wyoming Business Council program. The award goes to individuals who made a significant contribution to historic preservation in Wyoming over the course of their life and career. Wyoming Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources Director Milward Simpson directed the ceremony in the Barrett Building lobby. It was attended by Gov. Matt Mead, Historic Preservation and Business Council staff, friends and family and historic preservation advocates among others. “Through her work with Wyoming RDC and Main Street, (Randolph) has been a strong advocate for preserving our wonderful, historic buildings and sites along our main streets,” Simpson said. “You cannot travel to a town in our state that has not benefited from Mary’s involvement – either through the community assessment program or Wyoming Main Street.” Randolph became director of the Rural Development Council in 1997. In 2004, she also became the state coordinator for the Wyoming Main Street program. Previously, Randolph served 20 years with the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management in Colorado, California, Oregon and Wyoming. She held positions in administration, timber, land management planning and public affairs. Her last assignment was district ranger on the Medicine Wheel Ranger District, Big Horn National Forest. “In her role at the USFS, (Randolph) was a strong advocate for the preservation of the Medicine Wheel National Historic Landmark and the inclusion of the Native American voice,” Simpson said.
