CHIDOKA TO REVIEW ONGOING PROJECTS IN THE NIGERIA AVIATION INDUSTRY: The minister of aviation, Mr Osita Chidoka, has said his administration would focus on actualising the transformation agenda of the federal government even as he said he would review all on-going projects in the industry and tackle them in order of priority. Speaking with journalists in Lagos, yesterday, after a tour of the airport projects, he said his administration was committed to implementing the aviation roadmap, adding that he would engage industry stakeholders in his efforts to ensure the safety of the airspace and passengers’ facilitation. He further assured that his major goal “remains to continue the transformation agenda that is enfolding in the industry, to strengthen the institutions, to make our airways safe and to make our airport secure. So we are committed on that.” He said: “The aviation master plan and roadmap remain key to the development in aviation,” adding that having interacted with industry stakeholders would enable him to work out a strategy to implement the government’s transformation agenda. Speaking on his decision on on-going projects in the industry, especially the remodelling project among others, he said, “We are going to review activities in the industry, review existing projects, and try and review these activities to ensure safety in the air, safety and security of our airport infrastructure and to ensure customers convenience in the use of the airport. To this end, our visit yesterday to the airport showed that a lot of progress has been made in the industry. Our discussions with the stakeholders has led to the affirmation that the aviation master plan is a document that should be built on.” On the Ebola virus, Chidoka said his visit to the Lagos airport was to review the procedures put in place by the authorities, stressing that he wants to reassure Nigerians, especially air travellers, that the government was committed to making the airports safe. for travellers and not a transmission point for the virus. He, however, appealed that the virus should not be politicised and urged the press not to senstionalise news about the virus. His words, “I assumed office at a time that the Ebola virus is ravishing some parts of West Africa, so part of the visit to Lagos is to review the medical procedures that have that been put in place at the airports, the screening of passengers coming and leaving the Lagos airport. And to reassure all Nigerians that we are doing all that is within our ability to make our airport safe from the virus. You will also agree with me that the proactive manner Mr. president has reacted to the issue of the Ebola virus, highlighting it, and making it of national paramount. “I am coming out to make sure that the country does not go back in the fight against that virus. That is why we decided to go to the airport yesterday to interact at the airport and to reassure Nigerians of the government commitment to keep our airport safe and to make sure that it is not a transit point for the transmission of the Ebola virus,” he further added
