CHILDREN SELF HARMING ON THE INCREASE Yesterday NHS statistics suggested the number of children admitted to A&E for self-harming has soared by 41% in just five years. This is something 18-year-old Shannice Thompson understands. At the age of 12 and feeling isolated, Shannice started self-harming as a coping mechanism. She hit rock bottom when she was admitted to hospital after an attempt to take her own life. It has been a year since Shannice last self-harmed and today she wants to show others who may be suffering that there is a way out.
