CHRIS GEORGE TRANSITIONS FROM COOK TO SNIPER IN THE US ARMY Chris George is featured today on Comes A Soldiers Whisper. He wanted to be stationed in Colorado, so he could hunt. But the only job available when entering service was a cook. He took the job and got deployed to Iraq in 2002. While serving chow, some soldiers from the 4th ID came through. Chris asked if they had any openings for their sniper teams. This resulted in them taking him along with the permission from his unit. He became the first cook to transition to a sniper since WWII and did 3 tours in Iraq and was discharged in 2011. He was awarded several citations along the way and was honored in Washington, D.C. for his accomplishments and very unique story. Chris is currently retired with disability from TBI and PTSD along with survivors guilt. He is married with two beautiful daughters. We are deeply grateful to E.B. George, for sharing his nephews story and photographs and invite you to share your family photos &/or stories of those who served, so we may feature and honor them on Comes A Soldiers Whisper. Comes A Soldiers Whisper remembering our history and soldiers one day at a time. God Bless all who serve and keep us safe.
