#mnwx #newx #kswx #mswx - Vigorous storm system for August will spread heavy thunderstorms across the Plains and Great Lakes through remainder of holiday weekend. Storms will erupt today from the Eastern Dakotas and Minnesota south into Kansas and Nebraska. Severe thunderstorms are expected with damaging winds, large hail, isolated tornadoes and flash flooding rainfall. Storms will rumble into tonight across Minnesota and Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas. Highs will range from the upper 60s and 70s north to near 100 in southwest Kansas. Storms sweep east into the Great Lakes, mid-Mississippi Valley and northern Ohio Valley Labor Day with more severe and flash flooding downpours possible. Sultry air mass will produce scattered showers and thunderstorms across much of the South. Storms will be capable of producing rainfall rates of 1-2 per hour. Flash flooding will be a threat. Greatest threat for flash flooding will be from the Gulf Coast up across Tennessee and into Kentucky. Scattered showers and thunderstorms linger from the northern and central Rockies into the high Plains. A few showers are also possible in western Washington. Heat and humidity will make a return to the Northeast today. Sultry conditions will persist through the remainder of the holiday and much of the new week. Steamy days and muggy nights as temperatures soar into the 80s and 90s during the day and hold in the 70s overnight.
