CHRISTIAN VICTORY - HOW TO GROW IN THE FRUITS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: The Word of God says: But the fruits of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law (Galatians 5:22-23). It is only through the full manifestations of the fruits of the Holy Spirit that we truly mature in our faith and are fully able to fulfill our role as children of God. Growing in the fruits of the Spirit is a process; it is not instantaneous. This is a process that we need to do ourselves as we constantly obey Gods Word and His leading in our lives. We grow in the fruits of the Spirit as we constantly seek God in prayer, praise, worship, Bible study, fasting and obedience to His Word and His leading. On our own strength, we cannot acquire the fruits of the Spirit without the empowering of God because our flesh or old man will constantly oppose the changes. Why do we need to grow and mature in the fruits of the Spirit: 1) It is only through the fruits of the Spirit that we can function effectively as Christians. Without these divine virtues, it is difficult to follow Gods expectations of us. 2) It is only through the fruits of the Holy Spirit that we can get rid of the old man (our carnal nature) and put on the new man. 3) It is only through the full manifestations of the fruits of the Spirit that the gifts that we receive from God will function and work effectively according to Gods will. 4) It is only through the full manifestations of the fruits of the Holy Spirit that we can effectively fight our spiritual battles. 5) It is only through the full manifestations of the Holy Spirit that we can become like Jesus carrying His love and His light. When we become children of God, God gives us His virtues as a seed (fruits start as seeds). It is up to us whether we are willing to grow in these virtues or remain static in our Christian walk. How then can we grow in the fruits of the Holy Sprit? 1) Make sure you are a born again Christian (not just a Christian by title). Follow the steps of salvation (see my previous postings). There are many professing Christians who are not really born again to the kingdom of God. 2) Make sure you connect with the Holy Spirit. Remember the Holy Spirit is easily grieved and quenched by sin. Be holy as God commands. The Holy Spirit guides/teaches/empowers Christians to grow and mature in their walk with God. 3) Have a clean heart at all times. Sin starts as a motive. Ask God to create a clean heart in you at all times! 4) Obey the leading of the Holy Spirit in all areas of your life. God has a plan for each one of His children and we are all originals in the eyes of God. Each one of Gods children is unique in His eyes and He has a plan specifically for you. 5) Follow and practice all the spiritual disciplines that will draw you closer to God: frequent and fervent prayers, praise, worship, reading/meditating/memorizing the Word of God, regularly partaking of Communion; fasting, etc. 6) As you continue to grow in the fruits of the Holy Spirit, exercise these fruits in every opportunity God opens for you. Just as our physical bodies are strengthened by exercise, all of Gods blessings to us will strengthen as we continue to exercise them. Let me close this posting with the Words of God: But also for this reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
