CHURCH SERVICE WITH A PURPOSE daily devotional 2. Dont be basic and not read this. #BasicsOfNotBeingBASIC These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:6-9 It’s Sunday night after service and you are so jazzed. God has spoken strongly. You feel renewed, refreshed and like your world has just changed. The week is full of possibility. Then morning comes, and there’s that faint pattering in your heart reminding you of the evening’s events. As the hours go by, however, it starts to fade. Before you know it you’re back to your old patterns, just as tired and weary of the lack of God in your everyday as you were the prior week. The worst part? Though you sense something’s off on Tuesday, you don’t truly notice the backtracking in your spiritual walk that has taken place until next Sunday comes around. How do we stop that frustrating trend of feeling like what we’ve learned on a Sunday night is out of our mind by Tuesday morning? Rest assured. The permanence of truth that you’re longing for is natural. Church was meant to impact our lives beyond an evening. And it is possible to apply what we’ve learned and have it last throughout the week. How do we do it? It’s a matter of making a conscious effort every day. Growth happens when we choose to make each encounter with God not our everything but what fuels our momentum to seek Him more, and on a consistent basis. When speaking of community and church, like the Israelites in this passage of Deuteronomy, we are called to place our newfound understanding of God and His Word in our line of vision and make it the foremost topic of conversation throughout our week. Look up additional verses to go with what God’s said to you and what you’ve learned, tell a friend, and write things down. Ask God to open your eyes to what He’s doing every day. Ask Him to speak to you personally in your day to day. Church will go from a one-night thing to a place of growth, where one Sunday builds off the next, and so on and so on, each one propelling you deeper with God. Prayer: God, help me apply what I’ve learned in church. Continue to grow me in the areas where change has started. Speak to me daily. I welcome you into my everyday!
