CITIZEN Q: A group of renters in Halifax want landlords to be licensed. They say people are paying hundreds of dollars in rent to live in places that have mold, mice, bedbugs, no heat, and list of other issues. There are municipal by-laws and standards in place to protect renters, but this group says there isn’t enough enforcement. They want landlords to submit an annual inspection to get licensed. If their properties pass, they’ll be good for another year. It’s something they have in Vancouver and Toronto. Do you think landlords should be licensed?
