CITIZENFOUR Nail me to the cross. Oh wow, a real life - TopicsExpress

CITIZENFOUR Nail me to the cross. Oh wow, a real life cyberpunk thriller! Throughout most of the movie, I pushed myself as forward as I could trying to pay close attention without falling off the seat. Intense work. I bet schizophrenics feel vindicated now. This is coming from someone who didnt follow the Edward Snowden drama from the start so not only was it enlightening but also made me realise this is one of the most important documentaries Ill ever see. I do remember Snowden being considered a spy which the movie tackles with the destruction of the distinction between whistleblower and spy thanks to the use of the Espionage Act which is too broad and outdated. Unlike most cases of free speech being invoked on the internet, it was actually pertinent here as the USA govt tries to silence the Guardian and other news outlets from publishing the articles. It was an insight into how journalists have to work under such dangerous circumstances. Its not about terrorists. Cant use the excuse that if you dont have something to hide, there is no need to worry. Also delves into the current generation being accepting of privacy is dead rather than fighting for their privacy rights and stopping governments from becoming dictatorships. Its appropriate that Nine Inch Nails music was used. If this was a Hollywood movie, telecomm companies would stop sharing metadata and our details, new privacy laws would be enacted, whistleblowers would be given more rights, and NSA would be under trial. But for now, this is a tragedy. https://youtube/watch?v=XiGwAvd5mvM
