CITIZENS BANK AND TRUST COMPANY On March 30th, 1905, H. S. Roth, Geo. I. King, D. W. C. Laverty, Eugene Laverty, J. W. Rewalt and Walter Fisher met at the office of Dr. Laverty, constituting themselves into a committee to organize a National Bank. It was agreed that the name should be The Citizens National Bank of Middletown with a capital of $50,000; that the Board of Directors should consist of nine members; that the election of said board be held April 26th in the rooms of the Y.M.C.A.. A Board was duly elected on date designated, and met for organization on May 4th, 1905. A plot of ground was purchased from Mrs. M. B. Rambler, upon which the present bank building was erected. Mr. J. W. Rewalt was the first president and served in that capacity until his death, July 30th, 1909. Mr. H. S. Roth was his successor and acted as President until 1918 when Mr. J. J. Landis, was elected. Mr. A. R. Geyer, cashier, was actively engaged with the bank since its organization and became its cashier in 1912. Mr. John R. Geyer was the bank’s solicitor from the date of its organization in 1905 until his death in 1931. The Bank’s original capital was $50,000 with no paid in surplus. On January 1st, 1924, The Citizens Bank and Trust Company was organized to succeed the original Citizens National Bank. The Trust Company started business January 1st, 1924, with a capital of $125,000 and surplus of $75,000.
