CL SAVED DARA DURING THE JAPAN EARTHQUAKE During the earthquake, when Dara was finally able to contact CL on the phone, she asked “Where are you? Please save me” and CL calmly said “Unnie, just stay still. You can NOT use the elevator. I’ll come up to get you. Just sit down and stay there.” So CL walked from the 31st floor up to the 34th to rescue Dara. CL: “I thought we were going to die. If we were going to die, then we’ll die. But dying together would be the right way to go” Because Dara was so traumatized by the earthquake, she couldn’t sleep well. CL took the belt from a hotel bath robe and tied it to both of their hands. In the case that CL was asleep and Dara felt too scared because the room was shaking or she could see the water in cups were unsettled, she would pull on the robe and CL would wake up to comfort her. The day before they had to leave for Japan, CL really didn’t want to go and had a strange feeling that something bad was going to happen. Before leaving Korea, she kept saying that she really didn’t want to go.
