CLARIFYING CONFUSIONS The participation of African women in the agitation for gender equality is highly welcomed development. Thinking men do not find it offensive or incredulous, the era of role assignment is way gone. The women who accepts anything foisted upon them by the society are blind. Assertion of right doesnt necessarily imply casting of aspersions, it moves goes beyond wagging of tongues to involve understanding the real deal of womanhood. The idea that men does the battle and women tells the story is flawed. In several ways women battle and men tell tales. A woman for instance goes through the horrendous battle of pregnancy and child birth, while the man sits over bottles of beers telling of how it went. The days of incessant wars are over where men are either enlisted or conscripted to fight. What we have today are psychological warfare happening in various homes and workplaces and in a lot of ways women are often at the front of it all. But be not carried away woman! The idea of freedom in the African society differs from that of the West. While the Western feminist arguably tends more to radicalism and parallel recognition, the African woman understands that she is partners with her husband in pursuit of success. The idea of female liberation here is that women should be treated equally as human beings and not be treated as men. We live in a functionalist society, like the Trinitarian doctrine we are supposed equal but with different functions! A woman who advocates to be treated as a man is confused of her actual identity. And you man do not feel threatened! A real man need not flex muscles to assert himself! Role definition is not only social but also natural. The best man often is the man who understands his limits and allows his woman the chance of fairness! Playing god is only to self-destruct, women of the now are not sleeping. I do not talk about those awake to foolishness in the name of liberation, Im talking about those women who leads silent revolution daily in their homes and workplaces, who changes situations and redefines circumstances. Real men tap from such energies unavailable to manhood try as we may, but foolish men believes women has second fiddle roles to play as such wonderful opportunities of real growth are missed! Treat her like a lady and treat him like a man, the rest is bliss even in the fiercest of circles!
