CLASS SYSTEM STILL STRONG AND VISIBLE, EVEN AFTER TEN YEARS SINCE TSUNAMI Counting ten years since 2004, Caritas organizations from India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand remembered the victims of Tsunami in an International gathering in Colombo from November 3-5. An international report document along with a video documentary was released on the occasion showing an accomplishment of relief and rehabilitation work to the tune of $485 million. Visiting the affected families on day one in coastal Sri Lanka, who are mostly from Buddhist community, Caritas India Executive Director Fr. Frederick D’Souza exclaimed, “It was great to see how Caritas works in an inclusive manner, . …houses provided by Caritas have nurtured the hope among these families”. “Children are getting on with their lives, pursuing studies and carrier” he added. Sadly, “class system is clearly visible” observed Fr. D’Souza. Even after ten long years since 2004 Tsunami, known to be one among the world’s worst disasters in the recent history, it could not do away the class system among the people living in these parts of Sri Lanka. In the photos shared below, England’s CAFOD Head of Humanitarian Response Mathew Carter is seen sharing panel with Caritas India Chairman Bishop Lumen Monteiro. ED Fr. Frederick D’Souza is seen giving away the report document that was designed, printed and published in India on behalf of Caritas Network of Member organizations.
