CNSM had a DO DAY today from 7AM to 11AM. I have a scheduled task to be done at the office at that stated time so I took my garden assistant to work for me while I will accomplish the task I assigned myself to do. Reaching the college I started asking for people in-charged of the DO DAY so that I can just leave my garden assistant with them. But the physics society president, Eulogio Jr Auxtero, told me that the Student Council is in charged. I started asking for area assignments so that I can let my garden assistant work. I am paying him by the hour and I dont want to waste time and waste funds. The same area as we had cleaned the last time, the physics society president told me. I asked my g.a. to come with me at the back of the Physics building. I instructed him to remove the grasses and to work on the area thats open to the morning sun and to be sure that the cleaning of the stated area be done before the sun gets hot. As he started cleaning, I moved about and I realized that a very big task is ahead of those who are going to join. He was alone! There were only the two of us. The president of the physics society was busy with somethings related to the do day. I heard him busy at the phone. I decided to stay and work. As my g. a. remove the weeds and cultivated the surrounding of the flowering euphorbia, I negotiated with the tall grasses, the sugar cane, the growing ornamental banana, and the elephants ears. A few minutes after, Vernie Convicto (or Vernie Consigna), the newest faculty member of the Department came with his own cleaning instrument, guna! He started weeding and I asked him to get the grasses and not Ganis red spinach! Dili diay ni sagbot, maam? he asked as he inspected the uprooted plant. As we negotiated that particular area, the janitor came. He paused from cutting the grasses with the grass cutter and he went into our area. I knew he was worried about his sibujing, eggplant, string beans. I assured him that I knew how to work in the garden and that we can distinguish between plants and grasses! Then, he started complaining about something... It annoyed me and I told him I came to join the do day, to clean and not to listen to issues that does not concern me... He left! I know I was mean. I have to be! Am sure Vernie understood my point. At that point, we were laughing as we tried to clean our respective areas. Heide Ibardolaza came. She is one of our staff in the department. She worked with the students who came after Vernie near the Statistics building. Some more students came and I took the opportunity ( I behaved like the commander!) to assign them to places to be cleaned, instructed them how to segregate bio and non-biodegradable garbage, shown them the grasses to be pulled and the plants to be cared for, and to make our own biodegradable compost pile. I told them we must return to earth the decaying leaves, grasses and twigs. We must somehow help in replenishing the soil. I started to look for a spade to be used in cleaning the canal. The soil has slid into the canal that should be removed or else it will clog the drainage and may cause flood to occur again. Several years back the CNSM office was flooded because of the clogged drainage. I started to look for rake. Some of the biodegradable garbage must be raked unto the pile. There there was none! I did not look for bolo because I brought mine. But there are only two bolos used by the physics department! The Math students who cleaned the western side of the Physics Building borrowed my bolo. Students who came used their hands in pulling grasses. I was wondering: WHY DO WE HAVE TO DO THIS WHEN IN FACT WE DONT HAVE THE TOOLS? The sun was becoming hot. To quench our thirst, and to answer my complaining stomach, I sucked on the sugar cane. It refreshed me! I encouraged students to do the same if they felt they like it. Some did because they too were thirsty like me. The harvested sugar cane were then shared with the students (both physics and math) and even to the SDAs that I asked to come just to get their share. I inspected the western side of the building and I found Math students doing their share. The janitor, Gani, had already cut the grasses. I suggested to the officer of the Math Students that if they could not clean each plant in the plant circle, then they must remove the circle altogether. Plants left unattended are worse than grasses. I also told them that the janitor will only cut the grasses but have no time to attend to each plant in the circle. So, it is advisable to remove the circle to help the janitor maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the area. They did it. I was glad! Some faculty members came and they received an instant request. Adones Dingal helped me in planting again the plant I got from Lake Sebu. Dr. Henry Aringa, our chairman, received right away my request but he declined because the college might repair the rundown wooden white fences that wre had (I wanted to use that rundown wooden fence to fence off our compost pile so that the garbage wont be seen from the pathway and to prevent the garbage from sliding down the canal). Edna Fajardo, another staff of the department, after borrowing my bolo, had to look for it because it transferred from one hand to another without prior notice. Some male students were specially requested to water the euphorbia. Louie Aca-ac responded to the request. Then snack time came... actually it is the end of the do day period! I was glad! Nahuman na gyud mi! Salamat kay kapoy na gyud ko kaayo. It was very tiresome because I worked while instructing, showing people how things should be done! Kamas gyud kay gamay ra ang time unya init na pud... Now the CNSM DO DAY is over! I have muscle pains all over again. Gisugo ka ba to lead out sa Physics group?. You might asked me that question! WALA BAYA! Sorry, gud! He he he! One fruitful and wholesome activity done by everyone involved! Ang ako nga trabaho sa office? Ugma na lang to... Am just awful tired now! Tulog sa ko!
