=COMMENTARY= Open Letter To Prince Harding To: SLPP National Deputy Chairman/Leader Hi, Dr. Prince Alex Harding, I should not have written you this letter if you had not spoken after your election victory at the last SLPP Delegates’ Convention, which elected you National Deputy Chairman/Leader of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). If I can refer you to a section of a story published in this edition you are holding titled: Isata Jabbie & Co. Are Political Merchants, there is a part which reads: “He was referring to statements made by the defeated former National Chairlady, Isatu Jabbie Kabbah aka IJ and her cohorts (Ambassador Alie Bangura and his associates) as lies. “He went on to describe them as ‘political merchants,’ who, instead of campaigning the grassroots delegates, were busy showing off wealth in luxurious convoys in a campaign coined ‘the winning team’. “He added that the IJ Kabbah block exalted themselves above the esteemed delegates and that they lacked the political clout this time to win, following their woeful defeat over the years. “Dr. Harding asked: “how can we cheat when it was they who were in control of the process?” He added that the SLPP is in position and held what he described as “one of the most credible and well organized National Delegates’ Convention. “Dr. Harding further stated that IJ and her cohorts are bent on destroying the popularity of former flag bearer Julius Maada Bio in re-contesting the 2017/18 elections; and that that is why at this stage, “they influenced the invocation of MAC-P to intimidate true SLPP members.” I felt very sad after reading through the above lines. I know you Dr. Prince Alex Harding as a man worth his salt. I trust your judgement in political matters. I know you to be a unifier, not a destroyer. I believe you have a mission for the SLPP. But what I cannot understand is why you had to make such frivolous and provocative statements at such a sensitive time, immediately after you won an election, when all you needed to have done was to hug your defeated candidates as an open show of comradeship and love for party. I am surprised that at such a sensitive occasion, the cool and calculated Dr. Prince Alex Harding could afford to blow his cool and let off steam! You should know that the child who defecates forgets, it is the person who cleans his mess that never forgets! I will really appreciate Dr. Harding, if you can tread back on those words and extend a hand of friendship and cooperation to Isata Jabie and co. if for no other reason but for the sake of the party. The SLPP needs unity more than any other need thing in this point of its life. It would therefore be more beneficial if you could start your tenure in a more subtle, friendly and arms wide open manner, rather than by making insinuations, innuendos and casting aspersion on people who in their own little way have worked for the party you are now National Deputy Chairman/Leader of. Lambasting your fellow SLPP members for whatever reasons would only take the party in one direction – BACKWARDS! It is for this reason why I crave your indulgence Dr. Harding to tread softly and do all in your power to make the SLPP formidable in the years ahead because you can only be worth your salt when the SLPP wins the next election. You cannot cut off your nose to spite your face! From Prince C. Kamara
