COMMUNICATION NETS ARE DOWN...REALLY? --------------------------------- During the 1999 Kargil War, reporters got through to their TV and radio stations on satellite phones ...and so did some lucky soldiers who were allowed to use these phones by reporters embedded with or close by to their deployments... It is 2014 now and one is shocked to find that apart from hand wringing and moaning, the flooded areas of J and K have not been flooded with hundreds of these sets so that marooned people, intezamia and responders can talk and communicate. We are no longer a begging bowl nation. We can afford to spend on these essential stores to help assuage peoples fears so what are we waiting for...Apocalypse Now? Unless we learn to respect the people how can we expect people to respect us? Does Governance at all levels understand that? Why do we always hurry so slowly when disaster strikes? is there no contingency planning, contingency stocking, anticipation? Why are we so much into talk and more talk, so poor in execution and delivery... The Army in Kashmir may be under 6-7 feet of water in Srinagar Cantt but hear the Army Commander at Udhampur say that the Cantt has accomodated the civilian flood hit and is feeding, sheltering, treating them...and handing over blankets, tents, medicines from its reserve stocks...The Air Force has announced that it will work 24x7 till normalcy returns... Even after this, if people still deride the Armed Forces...Kuchh To Log Kahenge...Logon Ka Kaam hai Kehna...
