COMMUNION: OCTOBER 18, 2014 “ANAMNESIS” In 1st Corinthians - TopicsExpress

COMMUNION: OCTOBER 18, 2014 “ANAMNESIS” In 1st Corinthians chapter 11, Paul hands down to us the account of the Last Supper and the sharing of the bread and cup of communion, which Jesus directs us to do in ‘remembrance’ of Him. The Greek word is ‘anamnesis’, which is a word that defines itself as ‘fond memory’. So we take the bread and cup worthily if we do so ‘remembering fondly’ our Jesus, who gave us this everlasting memorial. An anamnesis is the sort of thing we experience when we look at a picture of a loved one. We call them to mind, and all the cherished memories we shared with them, recognizing they will always be in our hearts. Jesus gives us the communion as a point of remembrance for us, to take us spiritually back to the last supper. It is a reminder that He loved those around that table as He loves us today in Jerusalem, in London, in Los Angeles, in New York City, for all ages in all corners of the globe. Here the church is one as we partake together. I invite us all today as we take communion and listen to the music link below, to think of our favorite moment with Jesus, it may be when we first got saved, or when a loved one accepted Jesus, or our favorite gospel story involving the great love of Jesus. They are all ‘snapshots’ of this wonderful relationship we have with our beautiful Savior. Thank Him for the cross of Calvary. Thank Him for that moment in time, and be fed by those memories…with thanksgiving. youtu.be/nwjTT2bqKk0
