COMPETITION SUMMARY Driverless cars: what once was science fiction is the new tomorrow. Ever wondered what the future would look like when an automated automobile system is completely adopted? Well, the 2014 Ed Bacon Student Design Competition presents you an opportunity to stretch your imagination by designing an impression of what Philadelphia would look like in terms of a right of way occupied by intelligent automobiles; and the associated impact it would have on urban design in terms of public space designs, changes in level of service, storage, management and more. COMPETITION PROFILE 1x1.trans The Ed Bacon Student Design Competition 2014 at topstudentchallengesStudents who wish to participate in this design competition are open to submit their pre-registration until 3rd October 2013 and will receive the official competition challenge and rules via email when the competition opens formally on 4th October 2013. The competition will then run from then to 1st November 2013, followed by the awards ceremony in the spring of 2014. WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS? This student design competition offers a pre-registration that is free for all university-level students around the globe out to address real-world urban design issues. Teams with multi-disciplinary academic backgrounds are highly encouraged to participate. The organizers target students that strive to become designers, architects, planners, public policy makers, economists, transportation planners, MBAs, etc. WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU? The first prize is $5,000. Participants in this design competition also get to develop their skills, as well as educate the public about the role of architecture, design and urban planning in our daily lives through the Philadelphia Centre for Architecture, among other opportunities.
