CON Z TAKE OUT TOP OF TABLE CON A (Match Reports 04 12 2014) Current league leaders Con A were looking for a minimum of 3 points from this match to cement their hold on the top position, which for all concerned seemed a strong possibility. A brave and feisty performance from ‘mid table’ Con Z however, ‘drizzled on their parade’. Rob Cooke first on for the A team did little to further their chances with a lack-lustre performance against a rampant Steve Hall. McKechnie for the Z Team inspired by Halls performance played a magnificently controlled game against an off-form Steve Lacey, notching up a few decent breaks and sailing home to a comfortable win. Worried looks began to appear on faces of the A Team and it took the ever reliable Tommy Evans to settle a few jangled nerves with his steady relaxed style giving Symons little chance to get into the game and the A Team their first frame of the evening. Ian Longden required the next frame to keep the A Team in with a chance, His opponent, Dodd did everything that was required for his side, keeping Longden at bay and in a close run thing finally took the frame and the match for the Z Team. Carruthers needed the last frame to salvage some credibility for the A team, and salvage it he did despite a late surge for the finishing line from Jankowski. (By Brian Palmer) Lowly Con C added another scalp to their cause with an outstanding away win at West Devon D which moves them up to third from bottom, leapfrogging above West Devon D. Neale started the ‘ball rolling’ in a game of potting errors with he made the most of to take out West Devon’s Decieco to put the Con’s one up. Parity was soon restored as Murton gave Con’s Whiley a sharp lesson in potting to draw West Devon level. Once again the Cons were in front this time thanks to a robust performance from Walden as he had a nice leisurely game (one hour) to score over 80 points against an out of sorts May. Shoulders soon pulled one back for West Devon as he capitalised on some silly errors from Jago to grow in confidence to see the game out. The winner for the Con’s came against everyone’s expectations as Roffey with his free flowing potting game matched Shrimpton (Junior) pot for pot to audaciously take away Shrimpton’s 100 per cent record. Considering Con C did not win any matches last year, the fact that they have won two so far this season, must be a great source of encouragement for them. (By Clive Jago)
