DAILY EXPRESS SEPTEMBER 01, 2K1`4 Road death toll now 100 By \\\\\ Susan Mohammed Story Created: Aug 31, 2014 at 11:29 PM ECT Story Updated: Aug 31, 2014 at 11:29 PM ECT A 23-YEAR-OLD Ste Madeleine man was killed in a car crash yesterday along Uriah Butler Highway, taking the road fatality toll to 100 for the year to date. Police said Sergio Montano, of Collymos Drive, Corinth Hills, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to a police report, at around 4.40 a.m. Montano, driving a silver Peugeot convertible, was headed south along the highway. Eyewitnesses told police that Montano was driving in the right lane when it appeared he lost control and his car which flipped several times before slamming into a concrete bridge. The vehicle came to a stop in a ravine on the eastern side of the road, near the Divali Nagar site along Nasarol Ramaya Road. Witnesses who attempted to assist Montano told police it appeared that he was pinned in the vehicle and that part of his body was submerged in water. A party of officers from Chaguanas Police Station, led by Inspector Teesdale and Corporal Martin, as well as officers of the Freeport Highway Patrol visited the scene. An autopsy is expected to be performed on his body at the Forensic Science Centre, Federation Park tomorrow.
