CONFIRMATION OF NOMINATION – Wednesday, 2nd July, 2014 Ministerial Nominees (Prince Adedayo Adeyeye) Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan (Yobe North): Mr. Nominee, I have just one question but it is a composite question. Mr. Chairman, permit me to give a little bit of the background and then the question. Section 15 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended reads: The Motto of the Federal Republic of Nigeria shall be Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress. The background is that I feel very passionately about Nigeria. Mr. Nominee, I like your background of being an activist, NADECO, Afenifere and Alliance for Democracy. It is my judgment that you work passionately to ensure that this country stands and remains strongly on the path of unity, on the path of faith by citizens on their government, that we have sustained peace and of course, progress. I feel that we have shortage and deficit of unity today in Nigeria; we have shortage and deficit of faith of our citizens on us leaders of Nigeria, we have gross shortage of peace in this country, and of course, I leave the judgment to the rest of us here about progress. Mr. Nominee, what would you suggest as the best way for Nigeria, our dear country, to achieve sustained unity, for our citizens to have faith in us, leaders, so that they become patriotic as much as you want them to, for us to achieve sustained peace everywhere in Nigeria so that we can achieve industrialisation, wealth creation and job creation and finally, progress should be our target. Mr. Chairman, thank you for the opportunity to ask the question, but I want to say that I am not partisan; I asked my question as a patriotic citizen.
