CONFLICT BETWEEN MATERIAL SCIENCE AND SPIRITUAL RELIGION August 5, 2014 at 4:46am The universe in the context of human knowledge and control can be divided into two parts viz. (1) open part of universe, and (2) hidden part of universe. The open part of universe and its law within human knowledge, reach and control is subject matter of science and the hidden part of universe and its law beyond human knowledge, reach and control is subject matter of religion. The science always tries to expand by its continuous journey towards hidden part of universe thereby limiting the scope of religion. The science assumes some power working within universe and recognizes such power by the name of Nature. But the science does not get spiritual towards such power called Nature by any worship of and/or any prayer before such power. The science simply follows what comes out of such power viz. its material truth and material law. Thus, the science takes Nature purely in material sense. On the other hand, the religion is the product of fact that certain part of universe and its law continues to remain beyond the knowledge, reach and control of science. The science cannot deny that this hidden part of universe has its influence and control over open part of universe known to science, although science cannot prove such hidden influence and control. The religion calls this hidden part of universe as key or remote control of whole universe including both open and hidden parts of universe. The religion assumes God as the big boss being creator and controller of such giant universe. As the hidden part of universe remains beyond reach of science, the God as assumed by religion also remains beyond reach of science. In fact, even the Nature as power recognized by science remains beyond reach of science. In this way, the ignorance of science is the foundation of religion. The belief/faith in God, worship of God and prayer before God etc. are the matters of interest to religion. These matters in general can be recognized as spiritual matters. The religion however becomes paradoxical when it looks at even the material truth of open part of universe within reach of science in pure spiritual sense. This creates conflict between science and religion because the science looks at such open part of universe in pure material sense and the religion looks at such open part of universe in pure spiritual sense. But so long as religion does not spoil material sense in relation to material truth of open part of universe as found by science, there should not be any serious objection from science to religion giving spiritual touch to such material truth with belief/faith in God as creator and controller of such material truth, with some spiritual attachment to such God without losing material sense in relation to material truth of open part of universe. –Adv.B.S.More
