CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FIRST FEMALE PRIEST OF THE ANGLICAN CHURCH IN THE WINDWARD ISLANDS Tuesday, 10 September, 2013: Minister for Youth, Sport, and Ecclesiastic Affairs, Hon. Emmalin Pierre has congratulated Reverend Eleanor Glasgow on her elevation to the priesthood of the Anglican Church. Reverend Glasgow was previously the first female to be ordained a Deacon in the Anglican Church of the Windward Islands and has now become the first female Priest to be ordained in the Windward Islands. Minister Pierre in her congratulations to Reverend Glasgow stated that this is a major achievement for women in the religious sector in the Windward Islands and gives her support and encouragement to the Reverend as a woman in assuming the important role. The Minister has also offered congratulations and best wishes to Mrs. Myrtle Gordon and Ms. Yvette Calliste who were ordained Deacons of the Anglican Church at the same ceremony. In her congratulation to the two women, Minister Pierre stated that she believes that they will make pertinent contributions to Grenada’s society by sharing their experience, knowledge, and skills to encourage and foster the spiritual development of our people. These ordinations where held on Monday, 9th September, 2013, at the St. Patrick Anglican Church by The Right Reverend C. Leopold Friday Bishop of the Windward Islands.
