CONGRATULATIONS to Tamara Howe of Tamara Howe School of Dance on winning our Why I Keep Going SCHOLARSHIP Contest. Tamara will receive a 50% scholarship to Studio Owner University Feb. 21-23. Here is what she wrote: Growing up my mother would tell you that if you needed to find me I was either at dance, school or church. I spent many hours at my second home (the studio) and loved every minute of it. I had ambitions of going to Chiropractic School and had thought I would do dance for fun. I had the opportunity my senior year to do a mentorship with my studio owner and worked a couple days a week in the afternoon in the office. During that program I was asked to interview and put together a video and a career book. I have since lost the career book but came across a letter last week from my studio owner from 15 years ago commenting on my career book. I have framed this letter and put it in my office as a wonderful reminder. My former studio owner is such a wonderful inspiration to me and still a dear friend. She commented in my letter Not only do you share your love for dance, you radiate your love for life. With three kids under the age of 6 and being the main teacher who teaches 95% of the classes at my studio , I often struggle with the question of why do I keep going. This letter reminded me of that. I love living and learning in life. I love experiencing joy through all I do, good and bad. I love seeing the joy in my students faces and have a desire to help them find and see those same gifts in themselves. Its the comments from a parent of a once shy child saying that dance has changed them into a whole new person. It is the excitement from a 4 year old learning how to gallop. It is seeing the true joy of movement from my older students on stage. It is seeing my own children grow through the studio and all that we do as a family. Why do I keep going? I love what I do. I enjoy the people. I enjoy the children, tweens, teens and everything in between. I enjoy having the opportunity have my family as a part of the journey. Ive had the privilege of being at home with my kids and still working. Its a rewarding and taxing field all in the same but I couldnt imagine doing anything else. HAVE YOU REGISTERED YET?
