CONSUMER ALERT !!!! Kathie and I recently had to have our garage door opener replaced, it was to say the least a very bad experience. I had found an ad in the Value Mailer we all receive weekly, coupon, for a company GARAGE DOOR SERVICE. I called them and asked about a replacement garage door opener, they said usually $575, but special was $399, I scheduled an appt on Wed Oct 2 at 10am, they showed up 2 hours late. The installer proceeded to tell Kathie they needed to replace a springe and guide, and the cost would be $752, I told Kathie to have them leave. The manager for GARAGE DOOR SERVICE, called me at my office and after a discussion he agreed to the price of $399, he told me he would call the installer and advise him and Kathie of the price. About 10 or fifteen minutes later I called Kathie to see how he was doing and she told me the Garage Door Service manager told her I said I had agreed to $650, HE LIED, I Called him immediately and he told me he told Kathie that they would bill us for the difference, I said no, however at this point our garage door opener and garage door were in pieces on the floor. I finally had to pay $600. I eventually found out that this was a " Boiler Room Call Center that uses different names and uses the Value Mailer to promote their Call Center. They use local phone numbers on the ads to give us the impression they are local. My sister just got and ad from the same company in the Inland Empire using the name Jimmys Garage Door Service and a local 951 phone number. Please, for your own protection do not use this company,when you call you can hear in the background the call center sounds. I found out after fact the Spring cost was $17 and the Guide was $2, and neither needed to be replaced. I have filed a complaint with Dept of Consumer Affairs Contractors License Board, Better Business Bureau and am considering Small Claims Court. Remember, GARAGE DOOR SERVICE - Value Mailer Coupon, they are nationwide, so advise your family members.
