CONTINUING UPDATES ON THE RAFTING ACCIDENT THAT CAUSED THE DEATH OF THE 26-YEAR-OLD BOHOLANA TOURIST CAGAYAN DE ORO-The bad publicity resulting from the June 13 rafting accident had serious ramifications on the white water adventure tours that have made Cagayan de Oro famous among tourists. Vital Expulgar, president of the Oro Association of Rafters and operations manager of the Golden Friendship Outfitter group, said more than 200 tourists have cancelled their tours last week because of the rafting accident. Another tour operator, Rex Tapungot of Red Rafts, said 104 of his clients also cancelled their tour this coming weekend. “Many of those who cancelled are parents whose children have booked tours with us,” Expulgar said. Dorothy Pabayo, who heads Task Force Rapid said an estimated P600,000 in potential business was lost with the withdrawal of 200 tourists last week. “This do not include the loss of business potential in the local hotel industry and transportation business,” Pabayo said.
