CORNISH KOD Its all in the timing. Certainly, youve heard that expression. That couldnt be more applicable in John Hufnagels decision to play Jon Cornish in a... dare I use the word...meaningless game. The week prior, Cornish seemed content to smile at the cameras from the safety of the sidelines. Gotta wonder,,,what was Hufnagel thinking? With an icy slick snow coming down, he decides to risk his franchise player under these harsh conditions. And whattyou know...Cornish bounces his noggin on the turf and his struggle to recover his senses reminded me of Mike Tyson after being dropped by Buster Douglas. Suffering a concussion this close to the playoffs is potentially devastating for obvious reasons. But it bodes even worse for Cornish who missed half the season because of a dirty hit and concussion in week #1. Im not a neurologist, but it seems that repeated concussions in the same season can spell the beginning of the end for a players career. Hopefully, Jon Cornish doesnt fall into that depressing category. The larger looming question is...if yet another concussion removes Cornish from the playoff picture, can the Stamps win without him? Of course, they consistently won without him for half the season. Lets just pray that Jon bounces back and the Stamps dont have to demonstrate that they can rise to the occasion without arguably the best player in the league.
