COSAFA will have four representatives in the final round of qualifying for the 2015 African Youth Championships in Senegal next March and are assured of at least one country at the finals. Zambia, Malawi, South Africa and Lesotho all booked their passage into the final phase of qualifying at the weekend and are just two games away from reaching the continental showpiece tournament. And one of Malawi and Zambia will definitely be there after the two COSAFA teams were paired together in the final round draw. Malawi overcame DR Congo 2-0 away from home to book their passage, an excellent result for the Young Flames. And Zambia defeated fellow COSAFA side Mozambique 2-0 for the second time in the tie to advance 4-0 on aggregate. They will now compete over two legs, starting in Malawi, with the winner on aggregate advancing. South Africa were 1-0 winners over Ethiopia in their second leg to take the tie 3-0 on aggregate and set up a tough final round qualifier against Cameroon. The match did extend Amajita’s remarkable defensive record that has seen them not concede a goal in their last seven competitive matches stretching back to the start of the 2013 COSAFA Under-20 Championships in Lesotho last December. Lesotho defeated fellow COSAFA side Angola 1-0 away from home to complete a 4-1 aggregate success. They now face the might of Nigeria, as tough a test as you can get on the continent. The first leg matches in the final qualifying round will be played on the weekend of August 15-17, with the second legs a fortnight later.
