COULDNT MAKE THIS SHIT UP ID LIKE SOME OF WHAT THIS CUNT IS SMOKING We Need A Billionaire – A Fan Speaks Out SEPTEMBER 6, 2014 / BILLMCMURDO The following is a guest article from one of our favourite posters – Kenny S. I am sure you will enjoy his heartfelt message:- It appears that Mike Ashley has become the real power behind the scenes at Rangers. Ashley is a very wealthy man, worth over £3 billion, the 252nd richest man on earth. Impressive stuff you’d have to say – a smart businessman who is well known for his running of Newcastle Football Club and obviously for his stunning success as owner of the Sports Direct retail chain. Mike Ashley was in the news up here in Scotland this week. Sandy Easdale’s interview with The Record’s Keith Jackson alerted Rangers fans to the news that Ashley owns the naming rights to Ibrox. The thing is, we have no idea what the Sports Direct owner’s plans for Rangers are – or if he has any at all. The fact is he is now the subject of media speculation and, with our media’s record of destroying the Rangers name in recent years, all you can say is “Welcome to Glasgow, Mike.” The thing is though, Rangers NEED someone like him. We can’t go on the way we have been; things must change – and quickly. We have a board that now appear almost incapable of getting us out of this present situation, a regime that most who read this blog have backed. We’ve always said on here that until there’s proof that they are doing things wrong then they shall have our support. I can’t speak for anyone else but I’m having my doubts about this board and regime – and have been for quite some time, to be honest. Some of the decision making at the club beggars belief. We have Sandy Easdale giving the Record an exclusive – of all the papers to run to. What was he thinking? We have a CEO that has split our board of directors right down the middle – a guy who now openly falls into line with the very people that have caused Rangers so much financial damage. We have hedge funds that won’t underwrite the upcoming share issue, when their financial backing is at its most needed. Now we have revelations that our stadium, our home, might well have its name changed – for a quid ! A pound? This lot are having a laugh and yes, I do understand that the blame lies with Charles Green, but I’ll get to him. Ibrox is sacred, we all know that, so why don’t this board? I – and I’m sure I’m no different from any other Rangers supporter -want to know the ins and outs of this claim that Ashley bought those rights to change our stadium name for a pound. Is it true or not? This board really ought to use that PR man they brought up from Liverpool and enlighten us all to what the hell is going on. We have directors getting paid plenty and for what? Nothing’s changed and nothing’s changing quickly enough. A 120 day review that told us nothing we didn’t already know, a CEO and Chairman that, any time they’re asked a pertinent question, tell us due to Stock Market rules they are unable to answer. Nonsense, utter nonsense. This regime is taking us nowhere by the looks of it and they have played right into Dave King and the Murray’s hands. The consortium that has chased potential investors away – the people behind the requisitioners who tried and failed to get Paul Murray onto the board at last years AGM – all these men in the background making it almost impossible for the club to function, these men that have advocated boycotts of season tickets and merchandise… the Rangers board has played right into their hands. The problem with that though is that we’ll get nowhere fast if the people behind the Union of Fans and the Reqs do actually succeed in driving us into another administration. I’ve lost count of the Rangers supporters that have said to me they don’t go to Ibrox now due to crap football, internal politics, bad press and basically a whole shit load of negativity. This regime simply must take its fair share of responsibility for that. This board is collectively guilty of so many mistakes and, although I can sympathise with the directors due to the battle they’ve had on their hands, the fudging and botch-ups are draining me of any confidence I had in them. On the bright side, we are a massive club that over the last two seasons has averaged well over 40 thousand at our home games – something very few could equal. This regime had the biggest single opportunity to change the path our club walks, while we were in a transition period. That opportunity has been missed. We should never have given our manager a wage budget of £6 million a season approximately. Along with the manager and his staff, it’s cost £19 million to get us out of the semi-professional leagues. Think about the scale of that number. Poor decision-making, bad management and a lack of leadership have brought us to where we are. Radical change is necessary, not just to take us to where we want to be but simply to ensure we survive. Way too much money has been squandered. Or badly spent. Or has just vanished. Charles Green bought us when everyone else tiptoed around the idea. Where was King then? Where is he now? Is he waiting for Admin 2? Probably, but something I’ve never quite understood about all this talk of him buying us or saving us when another administration event happens is this .. Who says King is going to be the preferred bidder? Who says he will bid anyway? If it’s King himself telling others that he will then, going by his previous, don’t hold your breath. It’s a question I see asked often, especially on Bill’s blog: Where are all the Rangers Men ? Where were they on the darkest day in our history? Well, going by my recollection, Walter Smith and Jim McColl were about 20 minutes too late. And here’s the thing, all these Rangers Men couldn’t put us on the football map anymore. We need a billionaire for that to happen. We can’t survive in the real world with a few folk with a “right few quid” – we need serious wealth at our club. Mike Ashley is manoeuvering and positioning himself at Ibrox. Why? Does he see this as a glaring opportunity to make money? Absolutely! But can Rangers become a Champions League Club in the near future under his stewardship? Definitely! None of us can have any idea what Ashley or King are up to – but we can all be certain that Ashley HAS put money into this business, whereas King hasn’t. Rangers need money and bucket loads of it. Someone has to step up and pay. The whole situation at Rangers has reached critical levels; the very people that have refused to back the team or the club at all appear to believe that the return of The King is imminent. I’m not too sure. Mike Ashley has a proven track record in business – crucially, although he is hugely unpopular on Tyneside, he has steadied the ship there. I believe Newcastle are in debt to him, deep dept at that, but I believe if he was offered the right amount, he’d walk. Which would leave him free to snap up Rangers – and a way to get his Sports Direct signs all over Europe, at a tiny fraction of the cost in comparison to Newcastle. These billionaires don’t make money for nothing; they see £ signs. Has Mike Ashley seen them at Rangers? Most likely – and, as Rangers financial plight becomes more critical each day, Ashley could be the man to change the club’s fortunes while enhancing his own. A true win-win scenario. The problem I have when I consider the implications and muse over the suspects that have infested our club over the last 3 years, there’s not one person I’ve mentioned in this piece that I want anywhere near our club anymore – not one – with the possible exception of Mile Ashley. He has the money and the new reality in the game is if you’re not owned by a billionaire then your team doesn’t get to play in with the big boys. We need a billionaire and we have one. What are his plans and are we in them? Lets hear from Mr Ashley… Gaz
