COUNTDOWN TO THE BARN MOTEL MOTOR RALLY... DRIVER PROFILE - VYON PINTO Today we unveil to you Rally Driver Vyon... VYON IGNATIUS PINTO is a new Zambian rally driver who burst onto the rally scene this year. He is one of the youngest and yet fastest drivers on the Zambian rally tracks. Vyon first appeared on the local rally competition at the MadMax Rally held at Dave Gordons Sable Farm in Chisamba. In that rally, whose qualifying power stage was held at the Cosmopolitan Club near Makeni, Vyon debuted as a beginner and went all the way to the finish line. This was one tough and very fast race where big guns like Mohammed Essa (2012 African Rally Champion) failed to finish and retired with a broken control arm. Vyons next rally was the biggest he has ever competed in perhaps. That was the 2014 Airtel Zambia Intenational Rally where he came face to face not only with all the other Zambian kingpins of the rally tracks but also the big guns from the rest of the continent. He on one hand had to contend with seasoned drivers like Ken Mukosa the 2013 Zambian Rally Champion, against Jassy Singh the 2013 African Rally Champion and against Mohammed Essa the 2012 African Rally Champion and ex Pirelli Young Star Driver. From beyond the borders he had to square it off with several perennial thorns in the flesh like Giancarlo Davite (Rwanda), Jaspreet Catthe (Kenya) and Gary Chaynes the Ivory Coast rally champion and now ARC title holder. The three kings were racing in turbo charged all-conquering Mitsubishi Evolution-X cars. Vyon, navigated by Crawford Mwiinga powered up his modest Subaru Impreza GC8 the best he could and by the end of three days rally, he was among the 12 who finished the rally out of 21 starters. Vyon, who was born on the 24th September 1993 attended Baobab School. Currently he is studying accountancy (CIMA) at the Zambia Centre for Accountancy Studies (ZCAS). During his spare time, he rides a Honda CRF 450R Off-road Bike just for fun. He says he loves the sport and owes it to retired rally driver and veteran Paul Monge (Miles Monges father) who convinced his dad to allow him to drive competitively. In the last rally of the year, the Barn Rally, Vyon promises to close the year on a high note. He aint letting the cat out whether he wants a podium finish which isnt easy for a beginner but promises sparks in the next rally season. Watch out for Vyon and Crawford Mwiinga in the Subaru this weekend... #AKA1
