COUNTRY MUSIC NEWS & NOTES 8.9.13 LORETTA LYNN is among this YEAR’s "PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM" recipients -- the nation’s highest civilian honor. The "PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM" is presented to those who have made major contributions to world peace, or to the security, cultural, or national interest of the nation. LORETTA is being recognized for paving the way for women in Country music by "courageously breaking barriers in an industry long dominated by men," according to a WHITE HOUSE press release. Additional 2013 honorees include OPRAH WINFREY, retired baseball player ERNIE BANKS, former PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON, the late astronaut SALLY RIDE, as well as 11 others. Ever since news broke early this year that Lady Antebellum and Stevie Nicks would be teaming up on ‘CMT Crossroads,’ classic rock and country music fans alike have been anxiously waiting to see the episode.That wait is almost over. The episode will air on CMT on Sept. 13. Brad Paisley took the opening acts on his Beat This Summer tour go-karting recently, but he may not do it again. Clara Henningsen from family trio the Henningsens and Lee Brice were involved in an accident . Both were wearing helmets, but the impact knocked Brice’s off. It’s the second time in a month a country star has been injured in a go-kart accident. In early July, Jake Owen shattered his hand during a crash that occurred as he raced NASCAR’s Clint Bowyer and Kevin Harvick. His injuries required surgery, but he didn’t miss any shows.
