COUNTRY SONGWRITING CHECKLIST: Did you say girl at least a dozen times? Make sure to say that its Friday as soon as possible. Have you introduced some form of drinking by the end of 1st verse? Include some form of burning (e.g. burning up a back road, burning it down) Use the word it a lot, but dont really explain what it is. Did you put the girl in either cut off jeans or a red sun dress? Did your baby drive you crazy?.... perhaps even in that red sun dress or cutoffs Speaking of the sun, is it a red sun and is that red sun sinking? Are you in a small town or out somewhere, perhaps by the county line? Did you get lost with the girl, perhaps out somewhere past the county line? Did you say what you are drinking? Maybe a cold one, Bacardi or Jack? If you answered no to the above, call it sumthin or that feel good stuff ALWAYS use a line starting with, Girl, I love the way you/your _____ Did she slide it over to get a little closer and put her head on your shoulder? Is this girl wearing at least one article of your clothing? Shirt or hat/ballcap? Did you say Georgia at least once? Put your characters either at the beach or on a river bank, during summer. Did you reminisce about your unresolved high school 1st world problems? Use a ton of similes E.g. Girl, I miss you like I miss drinking. Did you liken smoking, cigarette smoke, or matches to something totally unrelated? -- this is another great opportunity to use simile -- Girl, you burned me like a match when you went away, like watching my cigarette smoke fade Classy stuff. No matter what, remember this. You never have a bad day, its always a party, your heart never breaks, all the country girls hang all over you, and the only emotion allowed is pure elation and craziness from the 24/7 bonfire-burning tailgate party that you have in some farmers cornfield that you are trespassing on.
