COURAGE TO PROCLAIM Ephesians 6:19 “Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the Gospel.” One of the greatest calls on your life as a Christian is to proclaim Christ and His message of salvation and hope. Lack of knowledge and confidence often makes many Christians reticent to share their faith. Paul was one of the greatest evangelists of all time, yet this verse indicates it was God that gave him the words and the courage to proclaim . Paul knew that his words – apart from the power and work of God – were useless. Only God has the ability to provide the right words for the right circumstances at the right time. Paul not only recognized his need for God in sharing Christ, but also actively sought Him to fill this need. God is more concerned about your availability and faith in professing Christ than the knowledge you have. Romans 1:16 says, “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel. It is the saving power of God for all who have faith.” Another reason for not sharing the Gospel with others is you might not feel God is making enough of a difference in your life to have something to share. Look closely! Your life should be overflowing with what Christ is doing in you so that your life might overflow with Christ to others. Both reasons for not sharing Christ become opportunities for God’s work in you. Ask God for faith and empowerment to respond to every opportunity you have to share your faith. If you feel the absence of God’s active work in you, this might reflect a lack of relationship with Christ. If you are lacking relationship with Christ, pour yourself into Him. Allow Christ to speak into your life through His Word and prayer. Respond to what God is impressing on your life and allow Him to lead you in all areas of your life. As your life in Christ grows, it will be difficult to contain what Christ is doing in you! Jeremiah 20:9 says, “But if I say, ‘I will not mention Him or speak any more in His name,’ His Word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.”
