COURT STOPS FAZS LIFE BAN ON MTINE THE country representative of the DRCs TP Mazembe football team Andre Mtine has obtained an injunction in the Ndola High Court restraining the Football Association of Zambia from imposing a life ban on him. Last year, the Kalusha Bwalya-headed Football Association banned Mtine, a former FAZ treasurer and committee member, from all football activities for life over allegations that he was at the centre of the club versus country stand-off involving national team players, Nathan Sinkala, Stoppila Sunzu and Rainford, who at the time were playing for Lubumbashi-domiciled TP Mazembe. In this matter, Mtine submitted that he ceased to be a member of FAZ and has not held any position in the association since January 2012. He further submitted that he performs duties on behalf of TP Mazembe in Zambia and this involves handling the affairs of Zambian football players contracted to the club as part of his official duties. He said in January, he received a letter dated December 12, 2013 which informed him of a disciplinary committee meeting that was convened on November 7, 2013 which found him culpable of bringing the name of FAZ into disrepute and that a decision had been taken to ban him for life But Mtine took the matter to court and sought an interim injunction to restrain FAZ or its agents from interfering with his contractual work at TP Mazembe Football Club and attending football matches in Zambia. In her June 13 ruling, Ndola High Court judge Petronella Ngulube confirmed Mtines injunction after FAZ or its agents failed to show up on the date that was set for inter-partes hearing. This was despite FAZ being served with the summons. Judge Ngulube ruled that Mtine would have suffered substantial irreparable injury if the interim injunction was not confirmed because such injury would not have been adequately remedied. In confirming the ex-parte injunction order that was granted to Mtine on April 17, judge Ngulube ordered no costs to any of the parties.
