CRIB SAFETY NOTICE: I frequently see many older cribs for sale on swap sites/ craigslist/ etc. I thought I would post the official ruling from the CPSC regarding new crib safety regulations in effect June 28, 2011. As of June 28, 2011 our store had to disassemble and discard ALL cribs in our store that did not meet new safety standards. (most were compliant as of 2010 or sold as full size beds and crib parts were discarded) Any crib manufactured before June 28, 2011 or without the specific notation that they meet or exceed Safety standard 16 CFR 1219 is subject to this ruling. It is against CPSC regulations to sell a crib that is non compliant. If you choose to sell a non-compliant crib you are liable if any harm or danger comes to the child using it. You are also subject to civil penalties related to committing a prohibited act. If you choose to use a non compliant crib the CPSC suggests you check it frequently for any signs of wear, damage, and make sure all hardware is in good working order. Also check the CPSCs recall list to make sure your crib isnt subject to a recall. FROM THE ATTACHED ARTICLE: Question: Is it okay for me as a consumer to resell, donate or give away a crib that does not meet the new crib standards? CPSC Answer: A consumer should not resell, donate or give away a crib that does not meet the new crib standards, such as trying to resell the product through an online auction site or donating to a local thrift store.
