“CRITICS ARE DISAPPOINTED, WE PROGRESSED THIS FAR” DEPUTY SPEAKER SPEAKS TOUGH TO NAYSAYERS The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives has sharply reacted to negative perceptions that the Legislative Nationwide Public Engagement Forum on the new petroleum law is a misjudgment and waste of public funds. Rep. Hans Baarchue said many negative criticisms were filtering to suggest that the tour would not have ended without the country been covered. The Grand Bassa District 1 Lawmaker described the misconception as selfish and unconstructive because money use in the course of action is justifiable and timely. Hon. Barchue, who Chairs the Legislative Public Engagement Forum and headed the delegation to Sinoe County, made the statement Monday, 2 December at the J. Dominic Bing City Hall in Greenville, Sinoe County. Representative Barchue asserted that the nationwide forum on the draft petroleum law is not only affording the lawmakers to soliciting views and recommendations from citizens across the country but is vividly exposing members of the Legislature to the many challenges that are hindering the development and way of living on the ordinary people. He highlighted the bad roads and appalling condition in some parts of the counties that caught the eyes of the lawmakers while on the nationwide tour. It can be recalled that Deputy Barchue promised to lobby with his colleagues to increase budgetary support for the Tubman University in Harper City, Maryland County. The institution is the only university in the southeastern region.
