CUBANS SEE COMMUNISTS EVERYWHERE by Ralph Rewes, 2007 I got a typical Miami “Anglo” friend, who despite the fact that she married a Cuban once and was surrounded by Cuban annoying friends, she fails to understand why Miami Cubans scream so much warning US Americans to open their eyes to the Communist infiltration crawling everywhere in our midst. Let have this phrase straight: Cubans do not see Communists everywhere, they detect Communists, pro-Communists and useful fools everywhere. And it is not paranoia, they are everywhere, even in Congress. Then she said, how come Cubans didn’t see them in Cuba and fight them off then. Well, because Cubans at the beginning of the “Revolution” saw the process, as blind Americans see it today. None of the measured changes in Cuba, were made or promoted as Communist changes.. Here is how they worked. And they worked because people failed to see the consequences of these measures set forth by a government not yet declared Communist. OWNING YOUR OWN HOME. Everyone renting a house, apartment or any other kind of dwelling under the new “revolutionary” laws, would become the owner of that dwelling. You can imagine the jumping up and down of the new owners. Their homes, theirs, for good, no more rent, it was a dream come true! Yet, as a Spanish saying reads, “Hapiness in a poor house has a very short life.” Things were not at all as they looked (there is no such thing as a free lunch). The State — how generous — decided to pay the former owners a pension, but only to those who owned less than four houses or apartments. However, this meant that the previous tenants did not get their dwelling for free, they had to purchase them from the State, but paying the State the same rent they did pay to their previous landlords, until the whole amount established by the Government was liquidated. And then, they still have to pay property taxes. Well…Well, that meant private property was actually gone, because no one could buy a house; no one could sell a home. The only thing you could do was "permute." Exchange “properties.” What is the meaning of this? If the place you lived in before this law, was a crummy run-down piece of real estate, you were set in misery for life. Ah, a freebie, your home could not be inherited by your children. Good deal! “If I only knew…” lamented the winners. OWNING YOUR OWN LAND. Same as above with farmers, but small landowners had to form state farms and collective farms to survive. Owners of very small parcels had to plant according to state regulation, independently, but in associations tightly watched by the State. SCHOOLS. Now every poor child could have access to those posh bourgeoise schools of the religious hierarchy. All private schools were nationalized. But poor kids went to poor schools and the kids of the new class went to posh schools. It was no discrimination. It was a matter of logic, since the new rulers lived in stolen mansions that were near those excellent schools of the past. And, of course, they were open to the ambassadors, consuls and diplomatic personnel of the friendly and sycophantic countries, those who would do everything to live with a good income, special well provided markets and diplomatic protection, and had no scruples to live "la dolce vita" in stolen mansions. They still live and they still don’t have any scruples. NO MORE COMMERCIALS. It was a day of jubilation among the idiots in Cuba the day they nationalized private TV and radio companies. Why? No more commercials. Now you could watch one program after the other with no interruption. And so on, and so on. The consequences were not only not to have time to go to the bathroom, but with any commercials gone, gone were the quality products they advertised! Any idiot savant would have guessed, but most Cubans could not realize those were steps for the yet undeclared Communist government toward totalitarianism. No private property, no private schools, no land in the hands of farmers, no commercials, no free enterprise, no quality products, no free media was the result of not paying heed to those who well versed in the Communist methods applied in Russia. Then it was too late, Cubans faced a monstrous Medusa with thousands of venomous snakes out her head and an overpowering all-seeing watching eye ready to turn anyone into stone. We are feeling this bliss. Government wants to give homes to crooks who cheated banks, and cheating banks face nationalization, schools are almost controlled, leaders are charismatic, and flaunt great emotional speeches with a lot of empty words. Poof! Loyalty above all else
