Facebook has acquired Bangalore-based start-up Little Eye Labs, a company that develops a tool that helps Android app developers to measure, analyse and optimise their apps, making it the social networking giant’s first acquisition in India. South Korean steel maker Posco has received environment clearance for its Rs 52,000 crore steel plant in Odisha, ending an eight-year wait for the project to get off the ground. A ministerial panel has approved selling 10% government stake in Indian Oil Corp (IOC) to ONGC and OIL, to rake in Rs 4,800-5,000 crore. Biotechnology company Biocon has launched a new and cheaper drug—CANMAb— to treat ‘metastatic’ breast cancer that aggressively spreads to other parts of the body. Biocon has developed the drug in association with US drug-maker Mylan. CANMab is the bio-similar version of anti-cancer drug Herceptin and will be available in India at about 25 percent discount to the current list price of Roche’s Herceptin. Television audience measurement company Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) has tied-up with Mediametrie of France for key technology services and licensing for its proposed television (TV) audience measurement system in India. With this tie-up, BARC is set to hit the market with its TV ratings starting October 2014. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) launched its new automatic small car Celerio. Samsung Electronics Co. has signed an agreement with Google Inc. to cross-license their patents. The deal covers patents to be filed over the next 10 years as well as existing patents. Lenovo Group has agreed to buy Google Inc’s Motorola handset division for $2.91 billion, in what is China’s largest-ever tech deal as Lenovo buys its way into a heavily competitive US handset market.
