Cabinet decision on exams to prevail Srinagar, Oct 14: Despite facing criticism for shifting the examination session, the state government has decided to stick to its decision to conduct the examinations in March 2015 instead of October-November this year. Secretary Education, Nirmal Sharma said there will be no modification in the cabinet decision and exams for all the classes will be conducted in the month of March. “The cabinet decision will prevail,” she added. Recently, the state cabinet had made a controversial decision that the annual examinations of the school education department Kashmir division and winter zone of Jammu division will be held in March 2015 instead of October –November 2014. Furthermore, sources in school education department said the government was mulling to continue the same pattern (March session) to get Central Board of School Education (CBSE) system implemented in J&K state in future as well. “Authorities are examining the issue and may decide to implement CBSE pattern in J&K in future as well,” sources said. However, Secretary Education refused to comment over the issue. She also ruled out any decision being taken by the government to announce winter vacations in mid of November month this year. “No such decision has been taken by us,” Sharma said. She, however, said the situation would change after shifting the examinations to March. “So we will have to examine everything and study the issue properly,” she added. Sources in the department, however, said the authorities are mulling to accommodate the flood-hit people in school buildings and the examinations were deferred for the same reason. “As winters are approaching the government is thinking of accommodating flood victims, who have presently taken shelter in tents, in school buildings,” sources said. Earlier, Secretary Education had said that around 525 schools in Srinagar city were converted into shelters for flood-affected people.
