Cabonne Residents Want Better Internet Services As the Federal election campaign hits full swing, Central West residents are being urged to speak up about their internet services. “Next month’s election has given local communities a perfect opportunity to push for better broadband services,” Cabonne Mayor Ian Gosper said. “The Government’s National Broadband Network and the Coalition’s alternative are key platforms in the election campaign, so councils in this region want to ensure our communities received the best service possible.” Cr Gosper said the CENTROC organisation of councils was working with the NSW Business Chamber in this region to ask people to fill in a short survey about their internet needs. “CENTROC wants to know what internet services are costing users and what problems they are experiencing so it can lobby the major parties on behalf of our communities,” he said. “If the Coalition is elected they will have a priority program for regions in need. We believe the Central NSW is definitely in the ‘in need’ category. “If the ALP is re-elected we want to see more commitments for this region.” CENTROC believes the Central West is at a great disadvantage to the rest of Australia, with no relief in sight. Canowindra is expected to be among the first Central West towns to receive the NBN, with a combination of fibre optic cable and fixed wireless services scheduled for installation by the end of 2015. However, no other Cabonne communities and only a handful of Central West towns are included in the NBN roll-out plans for the next three years.
