Cain Dingle has to face the consequences after ignoring a serious health scare. Cain will be left devastated when he collapses and is later diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. The village mechanic starts to realise something is wrong when he has dizzy spells and major headaches. He tries to hide his health worries but is forced to come clean to Charity Macey when she finds him collapsed on the garage floor. Although Cain is desperate for Charity to back off and keep quiet in the aftermath, she insists on taking him to A&E when he explains his symptoms. At the hospital, Cain is terrified to learn that he has an aneurysm that will require an operation straight away, but he is unable to cope with the news and rushes out. Cain begs her not to tell Moira what’s going on because he doesn’t want to worry her. Once again, Cain confides in Charity rather than his wife Moira, leaving her stunned by admitting that he could die at any moment. Despite the worrying news, Cain feels that the operation he needs is too much of a risk and threatens to kick Charity out of Butlers Farm if she tells anyone. A horrified Charity spends some time brooding over Cains ultimatum, then is confronted by Moira who accuses Charity of having an affair with Cain so she eventually decides to betray his confidence by telling Moira the truth. As the two women talk, a disorientated Cain collapses and falls into a freezing cold river as his health takes another turn for the worse. Thankfully Vanessa Woodfield and Kirin Kotecha pass by and save him. Walking nearby by chance, Kirin Kotecha and Vanessa Woodfield find Cain floating unconscious in the river and Kirin drags his lifeless body out while Vanessa calls for an ambulance… Jeff Hordley, who plays Cain, says his alter ego is desperate to pretend that everything is OK. He said: Cain is doing what a lot of men do when they convince themselves that there’s nothing wrong. “But as the weeks progress he begins to realise that there is a problem because he starts to research his symptoms. “He’s getting headaches, blurred vision and he’s dropping things because he can’t grip onto things properly. When he’s told he needs an operation he thinks that they’ve tinkered around with him enough and he’s worried about all the things that can go wrong. It’s not looking good for him at all. He’s frightened but he’s decided he’s not having the operation.
