Caldwell Cycles Racing Team and Fintona Cycling Club are pleased to announce that the two clubs will merge to become West Tyrone-Caldwell Cycles in 2015. The merger will see a new alignment in cycling in the West Tyrone area with a combined membership that will include riders who have represented Ireland, won Ulster and All Ireland championship medals in road racing, mountain biking and track cycling as well as a number of prestigious national level races. The Caldwell Cycles team began just two years ago but has already had major success in competitive events. The team membership includes former Irish internationals, Conor Murphy and Thomas Martin and double Ulster veterans road race champion, Paul Mulligan. These trio have a wealth of experience between them and will help lead the West Tyrone-Caldwell Cycles challenge for success next season. At just 18 years of age, Darnell Moore is a rising star in the sport who has won Ulster and All Ireland championships medals in mountain biking and cyclo-cross and also represented Ulster on the road in the Junior Tour of Ireland. Ulster womens road race league winner in 2010, Julie Mulligan is also part of the clubs line-up. Fintona Cycling Club which was formed in 1968 and has had a long history of promoting competitive and leisure events, under the driving force of club founder, Patsy McElhatton the club has promoted open races that attracted cyclists from every corner of Ireland, including the Fintona Grand Prix and Enniskillen Concorde Grand Prix. The club was also instrumental in bringing the international Tour of Ulster race to the local area on numerous occasions. FCC members over the years have included Ulster and All Ireland championship medals from as far back as the mid 1980s to the present day. Rachael Withers has won numerous medals at provincial and national level as well as representing Ireland on the road and the track. Ryan McDermott who won a silver medal in the All Ireland A3 senior road race championship in 2013 is another member of the squad. The club membership for 2015 also includes promising riders at junior and youth level, several of whom have already rode for Ulster but will also benefit from the support of their experienced club mates. The Omagh based club is set to promote a number of events next season as well including the John Mulligan Cup, Fintona Grand Prix and the West Tyrone Time Trial Grand Prix.
